of mud and donuts

you know the cyclone i was telling you about? well i survived it! me, octavia owl survived the cyclone.

i really really want mummy to buy me one of those t-shirts which says “i survived the cyclone of 17” but I think she’s forgotten i asked her which is a bit sad really because i stood by mummy when the cyclone was happening and i told her i would protect her.

the cyclone arrived a little before one o’clock on the friday morning. everything was very still and very quiet at quarter to one. mummy and i were sitting there just waiting. and then, about five minutes later BAMMM, the cyclone hit.

i just couldn’t believe it! we were in the middle of a cyclone and get this, mummy was watching the cyclone from the window. i tried so very very hard to pull mummy away from danger but i just couldn’t because i am so very little and mummy is so very very big and she told me there was no reason to be scared. oh invisible aubergines! didn’t she realise that i wasn’t scared and was trying to protect her??

i felt so very very responsible for keeping mummy safe because she does stupid things sometimes. silly mummy. in my very humble owl opinion i am surprised that she is still standing.

mummy said the cyclone was a bit of an anti-climax and that it wasn’t that strong but i can tell you that if i had stepped outside at that very moment – i wouldn’t be writing this blog post now. or ever. that was the fiercest wind i had ever lived through that's for sure.

and in the morning we went and inspected the camp site. it was so very very muddy because there had been a lot of rain as well as wind. i didn’t want to get muddy so mummy let me ride on her gumboot and i got to see the WHOLE CAMP SITE! it was HUGE. most of the tents had been taken down before the cyclone arrived but a few were left up and they didn’t look very good afterwards.

and do you know what else i saw? i saw a donut truck called the "super donut hero"! and they sold little donuts which were just the right size for me. i was so very very sad because the donut people were only setting up and wouldn’t be selling donuts until later on in the day. it just wasn’t very fair because i was so very hungry for donuts. but do you know what mummy did?

oh puffed up chocolate mice! on the saturday morning mummy bought me and msfs the most amazing donuts for breakfast. donuts with bacon and bananas and maple syrup and whipped cream. i can tell you, i was one super stuffed  little owl by the end of them. they were the bestest.
