Crumbelina

You will never ever ever ever believe what happened on Friday. Oh flying saucers made of chocolate mice! Somebody new came to live with us. The first we knew about it was when Mummy came up the stairs and told us to gather round because she had some news.

I have to admit that I was so very disappointed to start with. I thought Mummy was going to tell us that I had become famous. And rich. But she didn’t. It was very sad. And so very very disappointing. I have been waiting for the longest of times to be famous and rich. Oh how much long do I have to wait?

Anyway, Mummy told us that somebody new was coming to live with us and that her name was Crumbelina but we could call her Crumbles. And Mummy asked us to be very nice to her and to make her feel welcome because she was very shy.

I was so very very excited. I thought I was getting a new playmate. I imagined us doing all sorts of owl things together like learning to fly and eating chocolate mice, and cucumber sandwiches.

But then Mummy went down stairs and carried Crumbles upstairs. And do you know what? Crumbles wasn’t an owl! I should have realised sooner. Who on earth would call an owl Crumbles!

No, she wasn’t an owl at all. She was nothing like an owl. She was a dog. Just like Cocoa. And when I say just like Cocoa I mean just that. Exactly the same except that she was a different colour and didn’t have a damaged nose. I was so very hootless! Totally hootless.

Cocoa was so very excited when he saw her. You should have seen him when Mummy carried a very shy Crumbles into the room. His eyes lit up, his ears stood to attention and his nose started to sniff. And his tail started to wag like I've never seen it wag before.

Crumbles is so very lovely and gentle and ever so sweet. Mummy found her at the op-shop. Mummy said that she looked sad on the shelf with a price tag stapled to her ear, so Mummy picked her up, gave her a cuddle and asked her if she would like to come home and live with us. Crumbles nodded and so Mummy bought her, took her price label off and brought her home!

And now she sits on the bookshelf talking to Cocoa. They really like each other. I expect they will get married soon.
